SEVEN CURES FOR A LEAN PURSE

                                                                                      CHAPTER 3
The King of Babylon was faced with  a challenge where all his citizens had fewer gold while all the gold rest in the hands of a few very rich men of the city.
The King was  thoughtful for sometime. Then he asked, ‘Why should so few men be able to acquire all the gold?’
‘Because they know how,’ replied the Chancellor . ‘One may not condemn a man for succeeding because he knows how. Neither may one with justice take away from a man what he has fairly earned, to give to men  of less ability,’
So the man who had amassed the greatest wealth in Babylon was called upon to educate the citizens of Babylon on how to acquire wealth; and Arkad  was that man.
Arkad agreed to teach the citizens of Babylon how to acquire wealth. One hundred pupils were assembled before him.
SEVEN CURES FOR A LEAN PURSE:
1.      Start thy purse to fatten. The first step to fatten your purse is to find something doing then, ‘for every ten coins thou placest within thy purse take out for use  but nine. Thy purse will start to fatten at once and its increasing weight will feel good in thy hand and bring satisfaction to thy soul’. Said Arkad. He further warned his student saying, ‘deride not what I say because its simplicity. Truth is always simple’.

2.      Control thy expenditures. Arkad told his students ,’budgeting thy expenses that thou mayest have coins to pay for thy necessities, to pay for thy enjoyments and to gratify thy worth-while desires without spending more than nine –tenths of thy earnings .’

3.      Make thy gold multiply. Arkad told his students to put each coin to laboring that it may reproduce its kind even as the flocks of the field and help bring to thee income, a stream of wealth that shall flow consistently into thy purse’.

4.      Guard  thy treasures from loss. ‘ Guard  thy treasure from loss by investing only where thy principal is safe, where it may be reclaimed if desirable, and where thou will not fail to collect a fair rental. Consult with wise men. Secure the advice of those experienced in the profitable handling of gold. Let their wisdom protect thy treasure from unsafe investments  ,’said Arkad.

5.      Make of thy dwelling profitable investment. “No man’s family can fully enjoy life unless they do have a plot of ground wherein children can play in the clean earth and where the wife may raise not only blossoms but good rich herbs to feed her family’, said Arkad.
6.      Insure a future income. ‘Provide in advance for the needs of thy growing age and the protection of thy family.’ said Arkad.

7.      Increase thy ability to earn.”Study and become wiser, to become more skillful,  to so act as to respect thyself .Thereby shalt thou acquire confidence in thy self  to achieve thy carefully considered desires.’Arkad said as he concluded his teachings.
